"Desolate, extreme dark metal dreamscapes with an aura of sorrow....

...the smooth vocals and ambience of Katatonia and diverse heaviness of Opeth and Between The Buried And Me."

"Could be the soundtrack to a David Lynch movie."

"...this is hybrid-metal, intriguing, experimental insanity at its best!"

Requiem for Oblivion is a progressive, extreme metal band out of Erie, PA. The band is known for composing complex, heavy, and diverse songs with numerous twists and turns and those who see them onstage are treated to the dynamic musical performance that RFO brings to their live shows. They pay little attention to what would sell or what is trending and blaze their own trail in the tradition of bands like Rush, Dream Theater, and Opeth. Take a listen, watch a video and get ready to enjoy.

Project started by Steve Jacobson, former member and co-founder of the NorCal Death Metal Band FORSAKE THE FLESH. Steve moved to Erie, PA in 2007....which gave him the opportunity to start work on his own project that has been brewing for years. REQUIEM FOR OBLIVION is a 'hybrid metal' concept project/CD based on his years struggling with inner demons (i.e. drugs, booze, depression, self-destruction in almost every form) and the years since silencing those demons... Helping him with the recording process and the first to join the "live" version of RFO was drummer Mike Bryan, who ironically, moved to Erie from Reno just a month prior to Steve moving there. Through a twist of fate they were put together and so far have released a 6 song demo, Godbuilder EP in 2011, a 4 song 'EP13' in 2013, and a full length, Dark Tales Of Forgotten Mindscapes, released in June of 2014.

A revolving door of local musicians guest appeared for infrequent local and regional shows over the years. In early 2012, the live line-up was finally solidified with the addition of Geoff Radziszewski (Never To Suffer, ex-Chisel Fist) on guitar and in 2013, Andy Laughner (ex-Chisel Fist) on bass. After releasing  the debut full length in mid 2014, the band revamped the lineup for live shows adding Austin Anderson on drums and Kyle Kraschneske on bass.

Together, the band’s mix of ambient, progressive, technical metal provide their audience with a dynamic musical experience reminiscent of Agalloch, Opeth, Between The Buried And Me, Porcupine Tree, and Dream Theater. In addition, there are some acoustic steel and classical string sequences alongside ghostly, clean vocals mixed  with some guttural moments. You will experience sorrow and then shift to anger and finally elation as the band leads you on an emotional sonic journey.

RFO has played a show hosted by Metal Sanaz and has shared the stage with national and regional acts such as Katatonia, Kataklysm, Intronaut, Tesseract, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rose Funeral, Cult Of Luna, Mushroomhead, Kriadiaz, Ventana, Here Lies Another, Demons Within, and Scarwork. Plus, in years past, the band was known to play acoustic versions of their songs at many of the local venues around the Erie area.

As stated before, a six song demo (2010) is currently available on various sites and the songs can be obtained for free by joining our email list on Reverbnation. In 2011, an epic two song EP, which contains the critically acclaimed 'Godbuilder' was released as a limited edition and is posted on a few sites listed below. In August, EP13 was released and the band followed that up with the full-length in 2014 on Bandcamp. Check it out!
